Greg, I had the same situation with my 56. It turned out to be a partially plugged-up gas line. I discovered this by running a piece rubber gas line from the fuel pump into a can of gas. The car ran OK once I did that. Once I realized what the problem was I blew air back through the gas line and the problem went away. In my case, the problem started after I cleaned a resealed the gas tank. I think the sealer plugged up the output line in the tank.
