Guys, Make sure you have healthy and proper type of exhaust system for this. When my son was 18, he had a 72 Pontiac LeMans with a 400 motor and a standard baffle type oval muffler. He revved the motor, switched off the ignition for a few seconds, and turned it back on. Blew a 6 inch section open on the old pipe ahead of the muffler and inflated the muffler like a balloon. Of course he said it just happened while simply driving down the street. Ya sure, dad was young once too. My guess that only glass packs could tolerate this stress. A friend of mine has a custom that he has set up for flames. It has fuel injectors and spark plugs in the tail pipes. It works by revving one's engine, grounding the ignition (which allows an unburned fuel/air mixture to accumulate in the exhaust system), pressing an ignite switch to generate sparks at spark plugs installed into the tailpipes (setting off the mixture), and then turning your ignition back on to restore the engine to running just before all rpm is lost. Lather, rinse, repeat. Making this work takes some coordination and practice, and my friend has to rev his engine a couple of times at a minimum in order to get enough unburned fuel into the exhaust to make it work the first time. The kids love it. I found a website detailing one such kit. I'm sure there are others. What will they think of next? Hey, neon lights are pretty popular, too! http://www.hotrodsetc.net/flamekit.html Dan Davids Woodinville, WA > Can anyone on the list help my friend figure out how to make flames come out > of his tailpipes?
