Technically it is just a .130 overbore. The crank rods etc. are all the same. Only question is if there is enough meat in the cylinder walls. Even if there was (which I am not sure) at the time it was built, 50 years of rusting in the coolant jacket can make the walls porous. A .130 overbore is A LOT. I would say you should get the cylinder walls sonic tested to verify the thickness prior to boring. And even then you may find after boring that there is one or more spots that are too porous which would require sleeving. I'd think it'd be a lot cheaper to find a 354 block and rebuild it with your crank, rods, etc. Plus If you can get a whole 354 I beleive the later heads are better than the earlier 331 heads (bigger valves & ports). 57plymouth <57plymouth@MSN.COM To: L-FORWARDLOOK@LISTS.PSU.EDU > cc: Sent by: Forward Subject: [FWDLK] Hemi question Look Mopar Discussion List <L-FORWARDLOOK@list s.psu.edu> 09/10/01 11:17 AM Please respond to 57plymouth Can a 54 331 Chrysler be bored out to 354? Is it just a bore and piston swap, or is there more to it than that? The motor is in 57 DeSoto that I may buy if I can get the deal right. Thanks, Brian Cooper
