Now that's a tricky one ! French being my mother tongue, I can only disagree
at that nasty remark toward such a beautiful piece of mechanical "chef
d'oeuvre" which a carburettor is ... (If my memory serves me right, it's the
correct spelling of the word in english).

First of all, the word in french is "carburateur", which comes from
"carburant", a generic name for whatever you can feed to an internal
combustion engine. And no, it does not come from "Who's the devious #&£*/
that built that filthy +*-%$# piece of junk !"

As a conclusion, I should say "Leave zat trikee peece of art alonn, la
carburetor alwayzz knowz better zan you !!"

While I generally disagree that carburetors are tricky, I wonder if there's
any truth to the rumor that

"CARBURETOR"

is really a French word that means

"Leave Me Alone!"
