Re: [FWDLK] The price of showing off your FWDLK car

Karl,

In my opinion, those running that show are only in it to rip everybody off
for a profit. I only attend club sponsored shows. I have been involved in
the planning of many of my club's shows, including a national event. The
host club needs to charge admission to cover the costs of flyers,
advertising, trophies, dash plaques, sometimes the show site for large
shows, etc. These take a lot of time and effort by the host club, so I feel
they are entitled to a little compensation. Most shows charge $3 to $5 for
spectators, and $10 to $15 for the cars (including 2 occupants) for a one
day event. A few are even free. Even the "Back to the 50's" here in St. Paul
last weekend, which is one of the best in the country with 11,000 cars, is
only $25 for advance registration. This covers one vehicle and 2 people for
3 days. Or $4 per person per day. In addition to every car club, it seems
like every small town, suburb, Lions club, Rotory Club, Church, etc., is now
including a car show in their annual event. Usually at reasonable prices.
Here in Minneapolis, there are an average of 6 or more car show events every
weekend all summer long, from May to September. Lots to pick from. I usually
go to 7 or 8 each year.

Subject: [FWDLK] The price of showing off your FWDLK car

I need the opinions of the club members on this, please.

Saturday I drove 3 1/2 hours in my 61 300G from Des Moines to the Chrysler
Classic car show in Kansas City Missouri Saturday only to find out they
expected me to fork out 40 bucks just for the "priviledge" of allowing them
to charge spectators 10 bucks to look at it.

I became so incensed at what seemed to be an exhorbitant fee for a "car
show", I told the lady it just wasn't gonna happen and I turned around and
made the 3 1/2 hr journey back to Des Moines.

As you can tell, I don't get out to such events often with the 300, though I
loved the drive and the attention from the general masses who enjoyed ogling
my big black batmobile for free along the boulevard. Was I acting
unreasonable by leaving that show, or is this the expected "fee" for showing
ones car off at a car show?
