If you have noticed there are two types of mirrors provided by Chrysler in this time period. I believe they changed from 55 to 56. The 55 type which has the support arm angle to the rear goes on the door and the 56 and later style which angles forward is correct on the fender as I understand. I screwed up on my 55 300 which shouldn't have mirrors and have two 56 style on the front fenders. Didn't realize it was wrong until I had it painted with the original holes in the fenders and had spent a fortune rechroming the mirrors. At least they look neater than the correct ones!!
