This note about "marine" cams reminded me of yet another thing to watch out for regarding 318s. Be aware that the camshafts from the early (66 & down) and late "LA" (67 & up) WILL both "bolt-in" - but they are different. The valve arrangement is different between the two engines, therefore, so is the "lobe arrangement" on the cams. Trouble is - with the wrong camshaft installed, the engine will ALMOST start! Another thing to remember is that the 67 Canadian 318 is of the "early" style (not the "LA" engine like US 67s). ALso be careful with head gaskets - the early & late are different, but it is not really evident unless you have your "old" one for reference. The result will be that the 2 gallons or so of coolant you put in the radiator will (mostly) end up in the crankcase. Ah yes, it *can* be fun..................... regards, DaveG. ----- Original Message ----- From: <LARSPAINTR@xxxxxxx> To: <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 18, 2001 6:06 PM Subject: Re: [FWDLK] Dans tranny problems > Sorry but no magic solution here. > BUT > I had a very mechanically aware co worker that put a 318 in his 51 Dodge > Pickukp..
