And, for those of you who do not have the magazine, this is what they wrote
about the car, on pages 7-8 :
"The two gentlemen built Eckstrand what was perhaps the first factory
experimental, 1959 Plymouth Fury, using the brand-new 413-wedge that had just
superceded the 392 Hemi in the Chrysler 300E. As a hint, a one-off
Chrysler 300 emblem was mounted on its tailfin, custom-made for Al with no
letter designation on it. The car would race, but in B/Gas, where it was
cannon fodder for lighter entries."
The "two gentlemen" were Jack Charipar, then chief engineer for the
Plymouth Division, and Ronnie Householder, a former Indianapolis race driver who
was hired by Plymouth to assist in developing vehicles for police forces and
government agencies. The car was built at the division's garage
across the road from Plymouth's Lynch Road assembly plant in Detroit. So
this Fury with a 413-cid V8 was definitely not a production vehicle.
Also, the magazine shows a photo of the rear passenger-side quarter of a
black 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury. It has a "300" emblem on the tail, just to
the rear of the side trim where the Sport Fury's big emblem would
be. You can clearly see "300" and beneath it
"E".
