Ron, et al, The subject of secret or hidden numbers has been broached on this list some 5-6 months ago. At that time I was offering and hopeful of creating a chart or database of locations for the forward look cars. However, virtually no one could contribute locations on their cars. So no chart was created. As mentioned then, I do know that '57-58 Chryslers and DeSotos carried frame number on the right outer rail ahead of the wheel well - sometimes on the top of the rail, sometimes on the side, occasionally both! On the Chryslers, as Paul Holmgren noted, the frame number matched the motor number but NOT the VIN. In 1960 (start of unibody - no more "frame") Chrysler started stamping the cowl behind the heater box. I don't know about the other makes. The primary function of hidden / secret numbers is for law enforcement and insurance representatives can sort out stolen OR ALTERED cars. I recall too that the OK City bombing truck was identified by a frame or major component number. Wouldn't the share of knowledge on where they are located at on Forward Look cars go a long way in making buyers more prepared for when they get into a potential high dollar buying situation? I am lucky, I don't go for convertibles and my two "rare" cars were both second owner unrestored examples, but a lot of people may want to know more about them. Wayne, do you have specific knowledge you can share on location of VIN numbers, etc. on frames, etc. of FL cars? Leslie Howard __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
