If whoever it was who explained how to convert a later 727 from shift linkage to cable control (which makes it possible to keep the buttons) would work this procedure out for the 518, I'd say go with the 518. Convert the DeSoto to 5 buttons (trucks used this housing with TorqueFlite buttons & faceplate) and it'll pass for stock at first glance.
