Dave, There are some options. 1. If you have a dual point distributor in your 55, then Royze Inc. ( www.openroadint.com ) has a 6 volt electronic conversion that fits inside your current distributor. (Made by PerTronix by special arrangement.) Simple, but not cheap. 2. Last time I checked, there are no conversions for 58 and older single point Autolite distributors. You could convert your single point to a dual point and use the above. 3. Check with PerTronix. If they get enough demand, they may make a single point conversion. 4. The Chrysler electronic distributor from the 318/340/360 engines will drop right in the engine. Kit P/N P3690426. You just have to make it work in a 6 volt car. I think there are electronic voltage converter devices to step up the voltage from 6 to 12 for the feed to the distributor. 5. Any 318 distributor from the 1960's will drop in. PerTronix makes electronic conversions for single point versions of these that fit inside the distributor. You will still need to step up the voltage to 12 volts. This would have a more "stock" appearance than the Chrysler Electronic. 6. A hotter ignition coil will do wonders for starting and performance. I use a Jacobs Electronics (800-627-8800, www.jacobselectronics.com ) Energy Coil # 380672T. The coil is where the big spark voltage comes from. The electronic distributor only does away with the headache of points that need to be adjusted and replaced periodically. Dave Homstad 56 Dodge D500

I know it's been discussed before (at least i think it has), but where can I find an electronic ignition for a '55 301 poly? I don't know if they make any 6 volt jobbies out there, but I woudn't mind the upgrade, seeing as this will be a daily driver. Thanks in advance.
