Leon, The '55 DeSoto model you have is not a re-issued model, it is an original promo issued in 1955. Ideal was a division of JoHan that was phased out in '56. In the early eighties, XEL, also part of JoHan re-issued the '56 and '59 DeSoto models as well as some others. The '55 could not be re-issued because the tooling was modified to produce the '56. The '55 is a replica of the Jo-Han model, its made by "Ideal Models, Detroit 12, MI", or so it says on the bottom. It's Birch Grey and Thunder Gray. The '56 DeS in also a replica, you can buy them on ebay, about $39, brand new, says "Jo-Han Models, Detroit 12, MI" ??? The '57 and '59 Dodge are original issues (I've had the '59 since I bought a '59 Custom Royal Lancer in '59). All four say basically the same thing on the bottom. I think Ertl (sp?) or something like that offers the '55 and '56. There around, keep watching ebay. There seems to be plenty of 56 Desoto models on ebay, but I never see 55 models. Did any model manufacturer make them? Has anyone "converted" a 56 model into a 55? Seems like a new grill and a gentle massage to the wings ought to do it. John Compton Fullerton, CA t
