John, Simply re-arching the original springs will only result in a short term fix. New springs to factory specs may last longer, but over time will be the same as you have now. Another option is to have your original springs re-arched, but add an additional long leaf under the main leaf. I did this on my 56 Olds 20 years ago and it still sits a little higher (where I like it) than stock. I got this idea from my father who did this back in the 50's to his 57 Olds, plus 4 rear shocks and Monroe Load Levelers in front, so he could haul his horse trailer. His car handled better on curves with the trailer than many others without. Stiffer springs (new or re-arched original) will last longer and handle better, but will need to be flatter to give the same ride height. Consult with your spring supplier on selecting the right specifications for whatever path you decide.
