Some days ago I write an e-mail about a Torqueflite problem: after a 1/2 hour of drivin', the all new rebuilt transmission "died" suddently : no drive anyway ! Several tests after (oil level, cable, regulator valve) and after drain the converter, results were strange: no drive and the converter remains empty, even in N ! As I said, it seems that ther's a front pump problem. Today I've found the solution (i think..). I took the pressure line : correct !! Around 70 psi but identical in all positions ... So the pump was driven. But, why the converter remains empty ? Before removing the trans. from car, I would make other checks so I remove the oil pan. Bingo ! There was a 1/2 inch of mud-paste-mixture in the bottom and the oil strainer was completly clogged with this "like grease" mixture. So the pump couldn't suck any oil ..and the converter remain empty. But, from where this mixture come from ? Not from the trans. as I rebuilt all the components and flushed the case. It could only come from the converter (not flushed) but why, when i drained the converter, the oil came through very clean ? I think that, before rebuilding the trans., some oil passages were a little clogged so the "mixture" remain in the converter and couldn't reach the pan (oil was clear at removing); but, after cleaning the case, all the mixture was free of motion ... So it fall in the pan. And now I must remove the trans. and clean all the components: if ther's dirt in the pan , ther's also dirt in the valve body, oil passages, clutches, pumps etc... I don't know if ther's still some "mud" in the converter; I'll try to flush it (as described in the FSM) but itsn't easy: oil access holes are very small...Does someone has flushed a converter ? -- Philippe COURANT (Pau, France) Imperial 57 Crown convertible Buick 58 Roadmaster sedan - American Car Club de France (ACCF) : http://www.accf.com - Chrysler Imperial France : http://www.ifrance.com/c-i-f - Cadillac " Standard of Excellence " : http://www.ifrance.com/accf-cad - SportsCars : http://www.ifrance.com/accf-sprtcar
