I confused myself. Sometimes that is not a difficult task. I tried to calculate the approximate displacement of my engine to see what effect boring the block would have. I have a 1956 315 CID Poly Super Red Ram engine. The bore is 3.63 inches and the stroke is 3.80 inches as listed in the 1956 Dodge service manual. Volume of a cylinder is PI X Bore X Stroke. For my data that comes out to 346.28 cubic inches(8 cylinders). I need to add the volume of the combustion chamber in the heads and the head space of the pistons. This is much larger than 315 CID. How did this engine get rated at 315 CID? |
