Actually i saw an ad for a new short block from MOPAR performance (MOPAR
Action Oct 1999) the ad lists 2 blocks a "360" and a "360 Magnum" it appears
only the compresion ratio is different from the spec sheet but there is a
footnote about using standard heads on a "Magnum" shortblock if the blocks
head oiling holes are drilled. I was really just wondering if there were any
significant differences between the "new" engines and the on I have.
You all might remember I was planning on using a BB in my 56 Savoy but since
I have this LA (I took everything all brackets, wiring harnesses, engine,
trans etc) and now have just about everything needed to do the swap i will
probably re-build this one and stick with the small block for the time being
(UNLESS I can find someone who wants to trade for a 440 any takers? It is a
90k original owner engine, ran smooth burned no oil)
Any suggestions from anyone who has put a newer small block into a 55 or 56
would be appreciated. As far as i can tell I have to change the oil pan but
I cant tell yet what I will be faced with concerning the motor mounts and
manifold/header clearances.
Thanks,
Scott

Love that "Magnum Flathead"!!! Jason is correct in his listing of
differences - also the cylinder heads received quite an "upgrade" in the
metamorphasis - there are other differences, as in the valve train,
belt/accessory drive systems etc.etc. Don't think there were any "early"
magnum 360's (unless they called the 74 360 4bbl a "Magnum") that moniker
was reserved for the high performance engines, and until the Duster 360 of
74, the 360 was mostly considered a "haul the Newport around" type engine.
