I had the same thing happen to my 59 Fury last weekend. I was washing the car and noticed the brake lights were on, but not full brightness and they seemed to get brighter after a few minutes so I pumped the pedal a few times and they finally went out. I continued cleaning the car and they started to come on again so I checked the pressure switch on the master cylinder and it was quite warm so I pulled the wires off and the lights went out. I then took a pressure switch out of a parts car I have and put it in, now they don't work at all so I got a new switch at NAPA which I haven't installed yet, that's tomorrows job, I expect it will work. I did check the old switch with a meter and it is permanently on, probably a weak or broken spring inside.
