Anyone on the list someone from Billings, MT, considering a car in Mount Holly, NJ? I went to look at a '61 Imperial in Mount Holly, NJ, yesterday. Man selling it, named Gerdelmann, was doing a hard sell saying among other things that he'd spoken with someone (named Neil?) in Billings, MT, twice about it, and that the man in Billings was trying to figure out transport for the car. A heads-up -- when he spoke to me about it, he said it was an Imperial Crown (4-door) with no rust, including a solid rear bumper, 90K miles, dual air, and Auto Pilot. What it really is is an Imperial Custom (4-door) with minor rot below the Imperial logo on the lower left fender, minor bodywork (bondo) at the bottoms of the left and right rear quarter panels, bumper rot below both backup lights, only 70K miles, front air but no rear, and no Auto Pilot. And there are some things he's saying about it which don't jive -- like it's being from the estate of the original owner in PA and then at his place in Mount Holly, but its having rust because of its subjection to the salt air. Both Pennsylvania and Mount Holly are at least an hour inland. I like the car enough, and I definitely want a '61 Imperial (I have a '60 and had a '62, but like the '61s more -- that grille) but couldn't decide "yes" or "no" and so, remembering "if in doubt, don't," I decided "no." Given a choice, I'd go for NO front fender rot (the entire front clip being a welded unit, I hear) and Auto Pilot, as well as air. Or a '58 Custom Suburban, whichever comes first.
