I';ve had this 57 Plymouth Sport Suburban for about a year, and I just assumed it had a 318 until I was challenged recently. The 57-58 Service Manual shows B/W drawings of the four engines available..(.p. 274) which are the 318 Dual Fury (two four barrel carbs), the 350 Golden Commando, the 230 in-line six, and the V-800, which is the two bbl 301 and 318. Well, I can plainly see it isnt the dual furyn nor the golden commando, nor the 230 , so I'm left with either the 301 or the 318 two barrel. On p. 4 of same manual, there is a data chart. My car is a p-31 for which either engine was available. I know on the 59's, the engine block has a number that starts 31, meaning it is a 318. Does anybldy know how to decode an engine block number from 57, please?
