I had a similar problem on my 6 cyl 48 Dodge.  The problem I had was two
part. First, the motor mounts were shot allowing the engine to torque over
on accel. This, coupled with the close to the engine hanger had the thing
leaking every other month. I finally replaced the motor mounts (all three)
and removed the hanger.  I eventually replaced the hanger with a long rubber
strap type hanger so the exhaust could move with the engine more.
