I used to live in Ottawa and transfered to Texas a couple of months ago so that is why the car is being done in Canada. The car has the original 331 hemi but it is now bored over .060, has 10 to 1 aluminum pistons and a camshaft that doesn't look like a broomstick. I put a 750 AFB carter carb on the original manifold after machining the bores to match the carb. Should be in the mid to high 300 HP range. I want smoke and noise and lots of it when I nail the gas at 40 mph. -----Original Message----- From: Terry & Andree Hoeman <tehoema@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wednesday, April 29, 1998 1:01 PM Subject: Re: [FWDLK] 55 Chrysler comments Now you are going. Delighted to see yesterdays write-up about the Texas/Canada 55 StRegis. Why is it being restored so far away from where you live? These are truly great cars no question about it. If for no other reason than that they were such styling improvements over the 51-54 barges. For some reason I love 49 and 50 Chryslers but have no interest in or love of 51-54. I currently have 4 49s and 5 50s to go with my 13 55s. I tend to get carried away on cars I love! My black/white NY Newport came with radial tires and is the best riding 55 I've ever been in. Problem was they were shot and had painted on white walls which are still peeling as they hold up parts cars. Put bias belted tires on and it sure does look better but radials would be nice. Anyway I've still got three 55s available including yours Lars. JPEG's available! You ought to try touring down the road in a 300 though!. Did you see company had built 331, 354, and 392s available? 4, 5, and 6 grand as I remember!. 331 is 300 hp just like 300! Interesting. ---------- From: LARSPAINTR[SMTP:LARSPAINTR@xxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 1998 7:31 AM To: tehoema@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx; L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] 55 Chrysler comments Envious of those comments about that fab road car (55 CHrysler St Regis HT with 331 hemi and 4 barrel, torqueflite) I bought mine in about 69 for what, $375? And it was original, about 44K miles. Had the 66 Toro at that time too, finally let em both go for a new Audi 100LS. My gas bills were cut greatly! Anyhow I was driving between Grand Rapids and CLeveland OH some, could make the ohio line in what, 2 hours (about 145 miles). That car would simply Cruise at any speed with comfort- I had put recapped radials on it and it just was a dream. More on them later. And if U were doing say, 45 or 50 on a 2 laner, simply STOMP and that ole 2 speed kicked into low and thought U were in a jet- simply great performance in a fourthousand pound plus car. Only car I had with leather, loved it too. Anyone wanna take a Class 3 41 2 dr plymouth sedan on trade for one of those boats? Just joking (sorta) Enjoy- Lars |
