I had my carburetor rebuilt by a local guy for $40. I'm still doing the adjustments etc. but it is leaking and it is hard to tell where the leak is. I 'm pretty sure it is around the rear float chamber. Anyway, the mating halves are not perfectly flush. I was told that if I put double gaskets everywhere, that would probably stop any leak. Should I try to straighten the mating surfaces or will I just crack the parts? None of the local parts houses are able to cross over the carb's Holly part # R1971A. for a rebuild kit so I can add gaskets. It's the original carb. and the repair lists that # too. It's off a '60 Dodge with a 383. Can anyone help out with suggestions or give another part # that would use the same gaskets? (I already took the thing back to the guy who rebuilt it once for leaks, you get what you pay for). Deane |
