I just saw an article for an after-market overdrive that fit "like" (pardon the surfer slang) a turbo 300 transmission in a hot rod magazine. From the sound of things it seemed that it fit on the tail end of most transmissions (drive shaft had to be cut like 13 inches and the speedometer cable lengthened). I was wondering if any of you had heard about this and/or used it. Im also interested in alternatives to the 2 speed itself that would work with the 318 poly. So thats the first and most important question I have here. When this transmission goes Im gonna have to replace it. 2 speeds just dont get it in an emergency situation (like that idiot in the BMW who almost sideswiped my baby, talk about rage driving) of course Ill keep the transmission in case I ever sell the car to a purist. I however would really like to see the improved gas mileage and power that, first off, a bolt on overdrive (they claimed a 7 mph difference right off the bat) and then a possible new transmission would bring. ( the bolt on overdrive used a small automatic/switch device that positioned under the dash with lights that let you know when it engaged and dropped out as well as some type of computer chip to tell it when to engage in automatic mode) Im not very knowledgeable on this subject (powertrains or as I now realize old cars in general) so bear with me. Im also thinking about a new updated power option (engine) for when this one finally goes, so I need to keep that in mind when thinking about a new but usable transmission. So does anyone have any ideas of my options that wouldn't require too much modification to the car. And since Im wishing lets go for gas mileage and "power". A rebuilt hemi with a six speed + overdrive transmission perhaps perhaps? I know Im not totally dreaming cuz you see those cats in the hot rod magazines putting all manner of engines and transmissions into all makes and models of cars. Im just interested in something someone knows will work and do the job and that I will be able to get parts for rather easily- Im already a little tired of the politics of chasing down parts. thanx, dont be too harsh (you know Im kidding about the harsh part you guys have been great to me)............ric |
