For my '57 Fury, when I got the car as a basket case, it still had 1 1/2 of the headliner strips in it. The one good one I still have, but not in the car. Too afraid of breaking it. But I found a '58 Suburban with off-white headliner strips that were in EXCELLENT condition. Unfortunately, they ran side-to-side rather than front-to-back, so I had to cut and paste a little to make them fit, but it's really hard to tell the difference (did I show you that at Portland, Ron W??) The off-white color is almost a perfect match to the sand dune white body color. So until the chromelite ones get reproduced, this is what will stay in Mr. Finzzz. . .I guess bottom line is try to find a Suburban for a decent substitute, as we all know the real thing is literally impossible to find at this time. The strips out of the 70 dodge van will work but are not the correct profile, they are a little wider and have a flatter profile. 60 polara's and phoneix, 60 ply. Fury ( wagons have 4or5) are clear backed with chrome finish. 61 dodges and others are opaque white and maybe other colors. I need the chrome backed ones. I have 3 or 4 that I am working with now trying to get a correct finish on the reverse side. Chrome paint has not worked because the "shiney" part floats to the surface which is actually the wrong side when applied to the back. I have tried extruders but the tooling cost is TOOOO expensive, even for a 2,000 ft. run, in the chrome co-extruded type anyway. I am going to try to apply strips of chrome vinyl, from a sign company, that has a clear adhesive on its face and see if that works. But in short... count me in if you get some run. I get every old one I can find because the ones that look good shatter like glass when you try to snap them on and the ones that have all the chrome flaked off are still somewhat flexible. I have paid as little as $1 each and have been quoted as much as $150 each. Deane 60 polara |
