I read with interest Lars Larsen's mail on tires. When it comes to radials - (or any tire for that matter) I cannot vouch for how they act on older? cars. (40's and such). But as far as the "newer" cars, I can. With the radials - be aware that there are VAST differences in ride quality at low speeds. There are some tires out there that will turn any Mopar (and maybe others too) into a dump truck. I have seen (& driven) tires on late model (80's) RWD Chryslers (5th ave type) that are simply terrible in low speed ride quality. The same applies to caravans , and other front wheel drive vehicles as well. I know from experience that the late 50's chryslers are just as sensitive (if not more so) as the later cars. So - choose your radials carefully - there IS a difference! As far as the bias-ply repro tire available today - I can sum up all that I have had experience with (quite a few) in one word - - GARBAGE!!!!!! I won't name brand names - for either the radials or the repro - I might get sued. If there is interest - I might be able to come up with a few "good" radial names - no bias-ply though - I don't think there are any. That's my 2cts worth. DaveG. |
