Won't work. The tooth count on the ring gear is different due to differences in the starter gear.
A friend tried to put a direct drive starter on his 1964 Valiant after having the transmission and torque converter overhauled. Unbeknownst to him, the shop installed an American torque converter (US Valiants used the reduction gear starter, Canadian hung onto the Prestolite direct drive version) and the result was a broken gear on the bendix drive.
So it you want to change starters, you will need to change torque converter / ring gear. If you are having problems with your starter, any good auto electric shop can rebuild them. The Autolite/Prestolite starters are similar to the ones used by Ford, AMC and Studebaker (who also used Autolite/Prestolite as an auto electric supplier) so parts are around.
