Re: IML: Price guides

I know almost nothing about the value of older Imperials, but I'll give my two cents anyway...

Those old price guides and the Old Cars Price Guide in particular can be completely obtuse on trends. They were WAY off on muscle cars in the late 80s. I remember them having e-bodies (Barracuda & Challenger) around $3000 well into the 90s. Top of the line cars were barely above $10K. They offered a 10% increase for the hipo package and then another increase for the Hemi. No concept of the importance of options or even big block/small block. I mean 6 pack cars were going for $50,000 + by then. I know because some idiot used to bring the price guide and wave it at me while he demanded I sell mine for $2,500 on a quarterly basis.

In my experience they do not and cannot take into account the importance and desirability of certain option packages, so they have to be taken with a grain of salt.
