Thanks, Mike, but I've already send Tim a tome on the subject. We'll see if it helps - maybe I can re-edit what I wrote before to make it easier to follow. I do see a problem in the stuff I wrote about polarizing a generator. That must have been in response to someone with a problem on a positive ground car (1955 or older, I believe). My statement to touch the armature connection to the battery hot terminal WAS correct, but it should not have included the parenthetic "negative terminal", because the hot terminal is of course the positive terminal on all post 1955 cars that I am aware of. The important word is HOT terminal, the mention of whether this is positive or negative should be deleted to avoid confusion.
