IML: Smoke on Dash equals Heater Coil leak

Since it is winter, until you can find the elusive
heater control valve you might want to by-pass it and
hook the heater hoses directly to the heater core.

The heater control valve is fairly simple to replace.
It does require the removal of the glove box liner to
get to the temperature control cable attachment,
however. Just be sure to note which heater hose
attaches to which side of the valve in the engine
compartment. You don't want the coolant to go through
the valve backwards - it won't seal properly.

The valves are hard to find. NOS ones are pretty much
gone. Good used ones abound however. Similar valves
were used in all 1959-66 Imperials, all 59-61 Mopars,
and 62-64 Chryslers and Dodge 880's. So lots of
potential donors for used ones out there. Also,
there are also vendors who will rebuild your original.
