Brandt: If the pedal starts out high then slowly sinks to the floor one of two things is wrong, 1) there is a leak in the system, in which case you would loose brake fluid from the reservoir or 2) the master cylinder is bypassing fluid around the cups in which case you would not loose any fluid from the system. If the pedal just goes to the floor right away I would suspect air in the system or very badly misadjusted brakes.
