Evenin' Hailey I swore I detected the hint of jealousy in a gal's eyes tonite at the gas station once she realized the Mighty Crown was about a foot longer than her Giant Roadeating Suburban! Hee hee! Least the heater works good as tonite is our first real cold snap of the season. As for people keeping their eyes on the car rather than the road, I'm afraid that seems to go with the territory. With so many uninteresting vehicles on the road it just is too much temptation to gawk I reckon. What I got a kick out of was the sound at that speed. the 440 sounded amazing. The car has really good new shocks on it, and good Z rated Michalen tires. It is in perfect mechanical condition, other than the recent brake caliper issue and the engine only has 10000 miles on it since the rebuild. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w40, so it stays thick at high RPMs. The car is fun, no one knows what it is. The attention was fun in the spring, but later in the summer it began to annoy me. People in the city seem to get a kick out of a tall blonde girl in a tube top driving a massive convertible with loud exhausts. I still love the attention once in a while, but I have seen people make serious mistakes in traffic trying to look at my car. People on the sidewalk are always yelling stuff too. Kindest regards HaileyChristopher Hoffman wrote: Was 143 a typo? I doubt a '68 Imperial would do 143 mph without some major modification (and a fair portion of insanity on the part of all aboard). I imagine the engine could not overcome the aerodynamic drag of the body, and that would be a good thing since the rear-axle lift at that speed would probably cause uncontrollable fishtailing or at least dangerous instability. I know D^2 likes to drive fast, but not even he'd go that fast in a 40yo Imperial (I hope)! I've spent some time on Germany's Autobahns, so I know what 143 (or 155) feels like. I've even done 145 in a diesel-powered sedan. But each time I was in a modern German car (and a couple of MB prototypes) with excellent aerodynamics and modern chassis designs. So please tell us how fast you were really going, assuming that was a typo (or how you measured 143)! It gives me renewed respect for the Thermoquad (which can't seem to get my NYB up to highway speed the way my '67's Carter AFB can).
