I have been planning to get under the car and change the starter, but it is parked in the back yard, not on a cement slab. It is under cover, but not sitting on something solid. I don't mind working on my Imperials, but I do not like crawling under them in dirt. It seems like such a dilema, but then so is not having the car able to run. I am sure that I will get motivated before too long, especially with the expanding inspiration from this group!

Hi Paul
I guess I'm just kind of a car girl. My dad used to be a mechanic, ane he taught me a lot about cars. People think it's a little strange, but oh well, that's their problem :-)
I wired the neutral safty switch completly out of the system on my Imperial, because it was causing me some problems too. I don't mind being able to start it in gear, but that would scare some people. My starter died this summer too, so I got one off of a 5th avenue with a 318. It's the same starter.
They are not hard to change, just two bolts.

I also have a '68 Crown Convertible, but currently it isn't running. I believe that I have narrowed it down to the starter motor. Also, the neutral safety switch is fowling up. I do get a "clack" down at the starter solinoid if I pull on the gear selector while it is in "Park" and hold the key in the start position.
