To decode the VIN, you can go to 
http://www.imperialclub.com/registry/vin_decode.htm.  This will decode the 
VINs for all Imperials (and even some Chryslers).  For early cars you can 
go to http://www.imperialclub.com/Articles/Fedco/index.htm for an article 
on the Chrysler FedCo number system.  For decoding the rest of the fender 
tag you can go to http://www.imperialclub.com/Part/Body/Tags/1974.htm.
