Re: IML: Re:Imperial Mileage

Ummm, I didn't see anyone qualify that they were NOT talking about the
larger of the two gallons so I can only assume that they are talking about
the one I am most familiar with. If this is not the case, simply stating
which gallon one is referring to might be in order.

Hey Brad you forgot to mention the difference between our gallon and
that other unit of measurement referred to as a gallon south of the
49th.

My 77 440 (in my 5000 lb New Yorker Brougham) gets 18.5 mpg on the
highway
at normal, legal speeds.

Not specifically Imperially related but on the thread about 440 mileage.
Back in 89 drove a 69 Charger with a brand new rebuilt 440 to the Nats
from
VA, drage raced it a couple of times, drove to and from the motel on
Brice
and then home. 19 MPG. Didn't have highway gears but 2.94s or 3.23s I
think. Coverversely a buddy who drove a 318 Challenger I also owned got
but
18 with no racing. 440s can get good mileage.

  D^2,
OK, so I rounded up from 16.5. I have checked it on several
occassions
and yes I have checked the speed/mileage with a newer car following me.
This has been one of the best 440s I have owned. Its not a high mileage
car
so maybe that has something to do with it. I did replace the original
Holley with a Carter. I once owned a 76 New Yorker which also got me in
the
17 mpg range on the highway. A friend has a 77 T&C wagon which has been
converted from lean burn to a Mopar performance ignition and that big
girl
gets 16 mpg. Worst 440 I had for mileage was my 75 Imperial. That
thing
got 10 mpg no matter if it was in the city or on the highway.

  Happy motoring.
