Re: IML: suspension

Ken,  in your message you asked how hard it is to redo your front suspension bushings on the 1957 that you have.

You did not say how mechanical you are or whether you have a good set of basic tools and so forth.

I redid my front end myself and thought that it was pretty easy.  It was somewhat time consuming, but not really challenging from a mechanical standpoint.  There are the sway bar items, the front A-arm bushings, and the control-arm bushings in the frame.  With removal of the front wheels and the car securely suspended, this is not a real challenge if you ask me, but I've done lots of projects and have just jumped in and learned, which is my nature.

Is there anything in particular that seems to be a challenge?  Dumb question, but have you located where each of the respective parts goes and considered whether you could do it yourself after looking at that assembly?  Everything in there is relatively straight-forward.  You will likely need to have an alignment done at the end....

I would rate that project as a 5 with 10 being the hardest.  Replacing an alternator would be about a 3 by comparison, and doing an engine or transmission rebuild a 9 or 10.  Hope that you find a path through.

Any high price charged by a professional will probably be as a result of fear of the unknown rather than due to difficulty.
