Re: IML: 1960 Map Light switch & Power Antenna switch

Beware that this item is an achilles' heel on the 1960 and is specific/exclusive to this year.  The backing plate that holds the spring for the switch in place is made out of a material not unlike fiberboard.  It is clamped into place by the squeezed portions of the cast shell that is the light and switch fixture.  The fiberboard will dis-integrate in its aged, brittle state when pushed by a standard, uneducated finger, especially one controlled by someone that does not own a 1960 Imperial.

You will want to reinforce this backing plate and its fixing points that attach it to the bezel should you find one that is not fried.  NEVER press hard on any map/antenna switch in a 1960.

You will most likely be doing some jury rigging somehow or another.

Elijah Scott has an ad in the services offered section of the club classifieds.  He rebuilds window switches and may be able to assist?  Just make sure that he's aware (if he does not see this) that your switch is "special" and needs extra attention.  You could save some trouble by sending photos first, I think, as that may be on the outer edge of his expertise due to a requirement for fabrication/reinstallation of the back panel and scarcity of spare parts, but maybe he knows a trick or two?  Never hurts to ask....

The map light switch and antenna switch need replacing. The map light switch has been missing since I bought the car and the antenna switch sticks, causing the antenna motor to work overtime and smoke. Before I search for specialty switches and reinvent the wheel on this one, I would like to hear from other members first.
Thanks.
