Bad dealerships & the BBB



Unfortunately, in most areas (except for large metropolitan areas and even then), the BBB is more like a "social" club.  Several cities in southern California have BBB chapters but all they really will do is take a complaint.  They are not empowered to do anything legally to collect money or sue the provider of service or a dealership.

In some areas, the number of complaints must reach a certain level before they will even contact the dealership/servicer.  Sort of like a bank.  If you have a problem with a credit card and a merchant, the bank will do nothing.  Complaining to the OCC (Office of the Comptroller) who are supposed to regulate banks does nothing.

Sad but true,

I second that. I had 2 problems so far (not car-related) and promptly
contacted the Better Business Bureau. Both times, I've got what I wanted as
businesses take it very seriously when the BBB is involved.
