-Thanks for all the responses. I plan to experiment with the suggestions so far, but perhaps "you" were right when you said "More than likely, the noise occurs because the poor things are old." -To answer some questions: 1. Yes, I do have Radial tires. 2. Specifically, and currently the left front and the right rear. Strangely, I almost never hear a peep out of the opposites. 2a. Yes and No, I have switched them around to see if the cause was L/R/F/B placement. 3. I also am a "windows-down" driver, weather permitting (Bay Area - California). Cliff, I have driven several 1968 Imperials since 1989, and I can't remember having squeaky wheel covers, with bias or radial tires. Is your problem with just one cover, or with them all? Our 67 had the same problem. We took the hubcaps apart & cleaned painted them. When we put them back together we coated the underside of each part with clear silicone. We also put silicone on all the threads as we reassembled them. this stopped all the noises, but we still had trouble with them coming off. We got some covers for an 80's imperial from a recycle yard for everyday driving, and just put the originals on for special events. The reason I know that is because I nearly always drove it with the windows down. That is the way I think that the Southampton Four Door Hardtop looks the best. Back when I still had the gas heater, I even drove it that way in the dead of winter if the sky was clear. That heater would raise the temperature of the air OUTSIDE the car. > > That car has never had radial tires on it, so I doubt that will necessarily cause this problem. > > Paul ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Grove" <dave@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, June 19, 2004 8:53 PM Subject: Re: IML: '67 hubcap annoyances... > Cliff, - let me guess, - you now have radial tires? > Radials will make the wheels "flex" more than bias-ply tires do, and may be > enough to cause this problem.
