Hi everyone, more on the LeCrowns
Bill, It is so great to hear from you. If you have seen the story of my '60 on the IML you will see that my car got the same treatment. I always wondered if the buyer just did not want the small rear window but wanted a LeBaron. The dealer put the flight sweep deck on and it was painted white below. I thought maybe the deck was drilled for the LeBaron emblem so they put them on all around? Who knows. This was a matter of some debate as I am doing a frame up restoration and everyone seemed to agree that they just looked "wrong" on the car. Mine is documented on the invoice as LeBaron trim $76.95. Its a real conundrum as to what to do with these cars. The consensus has been to leave the emblems off, the theory being they were not factory authentic, unlike the decklid.
I too thought I was buying a LeBaron but when I found otherwise bought it because it was a documented oddity. That made it the more bitter not to reinstall the trim. I was very surprised that I had not seen your profile earlier. I guess I was not the first to coin the title LeCrown. My car came from L.P. Steuart in Washington DC, where did yours come from? Mine was delivered 6-9-60 so both our cars are latter mid-year production. The ironic part is I have a LeBaron parts car that has donated sheetmetal and so many parts the car should be a true LeBaron by now! Hearing about the existance of another dealer built LeBaron stirs the restoration controversy in my mind again.

Richard,
The Imperial dealer installed the LeBaron emblems on my '59 Crown. My neighbor the second owner (who know was friends with the first owner) told me that the emblems were applied at the dealer.
My car manufactured 4/59 was purchased 5/59. The car was loaded with tons of options. I always wondered if Chrysler stopped building the LeBarons early before the model year ended. And for some of the more pushy customers, I wonder if the dealers were able to purchase LeBaron emblems for those "almost" LeBarons.
