If one digs a little into this car dealer's other auctions, one can see his '66 T-Bird, shown here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2481176930 This car dealer claims his T-Bird has a leather interior, in two different places in his ad. If one knows what 40 year old leather and 40 year old vinyl looks like in comparison, then looks at this T-Bird, one can easily see how loosely this car dealer uses the word. This T-Bird would appear to have the standard vinyl interior. Leather was a real rarity in those 'Birds. The front seats of the LeBaron look like they could have been redone in leather. If so, the dye wasn't correctly matched. To this dealer's credit, I'd bet its genuine, virgin, and natural vinyl, possibly organically grown from the richest petrochemicals available. From his ad, this dealer seems to know how to recognize original carpeting, you'd think he'd be a little more up on leather and vinyl. It sounds like he is pretty loose w/the facts in the 'one of 19 cars made' statement, too. This pattern of false advertising could be a useful tool in negotiating by the bid winner. Buyer beware of the wormy spud. It also looks to me like the > front seat has been > redone in vinyl. Just doesn't have the same "glow" > to it as the rear I was noticing that too...if the car does have 118,000 miles on it as the seller believes, its nearly impossible that the front seats would looklike that, especiallyafter 37 years! My 67 coupe has what I consider to be very presentable original front seats, and even they (especially the driver) have some surface cracks and loose seams. That, coupled with the different sheens of the material makes me suspicious that they were redone. I see a lot of old cars advertised with leather seats when in fact they are vinyl. I like to believe that people are just clueless, and not deliberately trying to be deceptive. But I also hate to get them all defensive about a possible flaw with their car. Subject: Re: IML: BB older syster, 67 LeBaron on eBay Reply-To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx List: I happened to ask the seller about his statement that this car was, "...one of only 19 made," since production records in the Langworth books and the OIC site showed more than 2,900 units of these models made that year. His response was that it was one of only 19 made with the dual (rear) air. None of the production figures I have seen break down the data to that level of granularity but isn't it a bit hard to believe that less than 1% of the total production had this option? Or is that a typical or reasonable number? No big deal, I was just curious.
