1.  To me the transmission temp is OK.

2.  The transmission only has three forward gears.  The easiest way to get 
more low end response is to change the ratio of the finial drive.  Only go up 
one ratio to 3:23 so that your non-towing driving and usage is not effected.

3.  Keep the theromstat.  The super large transmission cooler may be blocking 
the other.
