I don't know if it is how I am presenting my self, or what ,
I still get the distinct impression that the bodyshop guys around
here just plain don't want to fool with a repaint on my Imperial. And I
have checked with probably 8 shops. Or if they do want to do it they
throw in so many verbal disclaimers its ridiculous.
The MACCO guys attitude was " Whatever, get it in here, leave a phone
number, don't call us we'll call you". And I am pretty sure his
estimate was $2,100 or thereabouts.
Hence my removing the chrome, and sanding it down to bring
it to where it is at today.

I am in the process of painting my other car, a four
door sedan spelled Cad...not my 1953 Custom Imperial. I block sanded the car
and primed some spots that needed priming and removed all the chrome and
stainless.
I took the car to three different shops Shop#1
quoted me a price of $6500 and promised it would be show room quality finish,
which I don't really need at my age.
Shop #2, an independent, quoted me a price of $2300 they
would block sand and prime the whole car, although it doesn't need
it.
Shop# 3, MACCO, owned by a guy who used to restore
and remodel and paint his own cars when he was a teenager...fell in love with
my other car when I wheeled it in...he quoted my a price of $1047 for two
coats of Sherwin Williams paint and two coats of clear coat.
Shop #2 also gave me a quote on my Imperial..remove and
install chrome and stainless, block sand, prime entire car, block sand,
two coats of PPG paint and two coats of clear coat for $2300. Not a bad
price, in my opinion.
This should give you some idea of the broad parameters
of costs. The important thing is to know what you want with respect to
color and quality of paint, do a walk through of the paint facility and
really important, take a good look at some of the jobs your prospective
painter has done.
Good luck!

For what its worth...A self employed bodyshop
owner just quoted me a price of $2800-$3000 to do my 67 Coupe.
That is with the chrome already removed. He said
the PPG
basecoat/clearcoat materials included in
the price would be about $700

Depends:a paint job can range from$1200,too $5000.This is only for
what you'r asking for.Find a jobber for dupont or ppg paint. They may know
some one who does side work, you could get the job reasonable, or get a
panel etch prime,heavy build primer it,then sand,whipe,tack ,base coat,and
definatly, definatly clear the thing. When you do the panel standing up
perfect, then your ready to paint your car. good
luck. Ken;I440toyou

Hi All,
What is the average cost to have a Imperial painted if all the body work
has been done, all glass and rubber removed, engine and trans
removed, but the interior still in place? This would include the
door jams, engine compartment and trunk. No frame coating involved. One
color, and, is a clear coat the way to go?
