Non Functioning heater/AC in my 67 Imperial

Hi Carl,
When you push any of the control buttons other than and the fan switch is in the off position the fan comes on at a very slow speed. Push the off button on the control panel and the fan stops completely. When you push the A/C button the compressor does engage, fan works on off position or med only but isn't blow exactly where you want it to. Seems to want to blend into all the circuits. Push the heater with the fan off and it blows with the fan off and Med but very weak. Again it seems to blow in all the circuits. Push the Defrost button with the fan off and it blow very weakly on the windshield. Place the fan switch in Med position and it blows but is still weak on the windshield. Any ideas of what wrong. I will get some tuner cleaner if you think that might help. But it looks as if I'll be tearing into it one way or another to fix it. I really nned the heater and defroster right now. Let me know what you think it might be, By the way, the fan makes a very very low ticking noise like something is hitting the fan blade when it is working.

Kent & Sally,

Do you get any heat at all once the button is pushed & the temp bar is all the way to the right? (once the car is warmed up & in motion, you should feel at least a 'trace' of heat directed to the floor. When you hit the A/C button, does the compressor engage? If not, you may have a simple vacuum leak to the control head or a bad electrical connection.

On my '67 Crown Coupe, I found that ALL switches (esp the dash switches) were quite dirty, so I took out each one & cleaned them with tuner cleaner (Radio Shack, etc) & now everything works as it should!

Before attempting to remove the panel switch, spray a bit into the switch opening, then gently turn the switch "on-off" a few times...this may do the trick. If not, removing the A/C cluster is simple, really.

Let me know.

Carl
