Designer of Chrysler logo




The pentastar appeared during the 1963 model year, after intro time.  I have
a copy of the 1963 Chrysler of Canada parts catalogue, published September
1962, and the pentastar is neither listed nor illustrated.  It is, however,
listed in the March, 1963 updates for the Valiant parts catalogue that I
have.

The pentastar was meant to represent the Chrysler Corporation and all its
divisions, from the auto divisions (Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, Imperial,
DeSoto, Fargo,  Simca, Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam, Humber, Barreiros) to
Airtemp, Chrysler Financial, Mopar/Chryco parts, Chrysler Marine/Industrial
Engines, Chrysler Outboard, Cycleweld, Amplex-Oilite, tanks, missiles, etc.
It was applied to Chrysler products worldwide.

The Forward Look symbol first appeared on cars for the 1956 model year.  It
appeared on the rear fenders of 1956 Plymouth Belvedere. Dodge Mayfair,
Dodge Kingsway Custom, DeSoto Diplomat Custom, and the front fenders of
DeSoto Adventurer models.  I believe it first appeared in advertising during
the 1955 model year.

I believe Lynn Townsend was the father of the pentastar. If I remember right
it was introduced with the 1965 models. When did the ignition keys first
