Jeff; I guess that he was a Chebby guy who didn't know what they are worth. You can buy a complete, rebuilt, longblock from P.A.W for $4500 or so, without having to chuck out a body afterward. Why people would destroy a perfectly good car for the Hemi is beyond me when half of them are sitting in the back corner of someone's garage collecting dust until they decide to part with them. I have seen rebuilt 392's for around $2500 to $3500 (many with speed parts), rebuildable cores for considerably less. In many people's opinion the 354 is a better engine anyway as it has a shorter, stiffer block. I honestly think that many out there think that the 392's are the smaller brother to the famous 426 racing Hemi when in reality it's an ancestor, and a heavy one at that. Check out Power Play Hemi's ad pages if you are looking for one, or Hemmings, they are out there. Now it was a running driving car which had around 100,000 miles on the engine and his first plan was to rebuild the 392. So based on that, I would say $2400.
