If you are referring to the cowl vent lever, it should be a chrome thumb lever protruding through a large chrome bezel under the radio. The fresh air doors on either side under the dash have rubber handles at the bottom where one would operate the lever to open and close the doors. On '55 these are gray, and on '56 they are red.
