I trailered my '65 Imperial from Minneapolis on my 18 foot
dovetailed flatbed, with my 3/4 T 4X4 '76 Dodge which is
equipped with a 318 but with 4.10 axles. About 750 miles.
I also brought my '65 Imperial parts car from North Carolina
with the same setup, again about 750 miles including some
mountainous travelling. I had prepared the trailer fenders
so that I could dismount them and put them in the bed of the
truck if need be, but it wasn't necessary. The front
bumpers of each were right at the front and the rear bumpers
overhung the rear just a bit, but I had no trouble getting
the cars cinched down and stable. I bought the trailer new
specifically for these trips, $1200 with funky used
"transport" tires which I replaced with 6 ply trailer tires
before the trips. That was in '96, and I've replaced the
wood of the bed once, just last summer. Been one of the
best investments I've ever made.
