You remmeber my inquiry about the '57 Imperial which drives only in R :
> The car drives in R and in all positions (D, N,1,2 & R) !!
> My thought is that the cable is unhooked at trans. end and the manual
> valve stays in R position, i can't see other reason. I've rebuilt this
> trans 1 year ago and itsn't me who has reinstalled the trans. in the car.
I've looked at the car this morning:
- the trans. safety switch was wired but only at trans ..
- the cable was unhooked from the adapter at trans !
We remove the oil pan and see that the manual valve stays in R if we
push one of the button. So problem with cable: we discovered that the
small spring on the control cable adapter was loose and it revolves 1/4
turn so the vertical part of the spring was off the groove of the
adapter and no longer blocks the cable; thus the cable was free !
It happened when the trans was in R so the trans. remains in R
whichever the button you engage. The car could be started because the
trans. neutral switch wasn't wired ! Very dangerous indeed !!
