What is JB Weld?

I plugged a serious crack in the block of my 49 Merc V8 flathead with the 
stuff. It was leaking coolant into the pan through this crack. I had nothing 
to lose, pulled the pan, cleaned the area  and applied JB. No more leak and 
that was years ago. As far as structural integrity well it has not blown up 
yet.. Cheap fix but it did what was advertised.
