Well this has been a first.
For some time, I've been trying to sell my 38
Studebaker Coupe Express and today the buyer came to pick it up. I've also
had my 64 Crown on the market but haven't done anything other than post it on
the IML classified. This Sunday, on the way back from Anniston, I called
my friend Ray Hickey. We got to talking (cell phone is free on the
weekend) and we discussed his 62 Crown. It's a very nice car. completly
new motor, trans, most everything else. New base/clear about 3 years back
but some rust coming through the bottom of the doors. This is odd because
it was not present before Ray painted it. I saw the original car in the
original paint. Interior is new and nice. Color is not an Imperial
color but is close and looks good. Its kind of bronze metallic with a burgundy
interior.
Anyway Ray was saying that he just doesn't like to
'piddle' with his cars once he's finished them. I said I was exactly the
same way and that I needed to do some TLC on the 64 but just couldn't get
motivated. He said ,"we should just trade."
I laughted but after thinking about it, got
interested and verified this week that he was serious. He was and this
afternoon, he drove the 62 out to my house, and we drove each others car around
for a while and did an even trade.
The 62 will need some rust repair and panel repaint
on the lower half of the doors below the trim line. Should be straight
forward. I'll do the usual saga. Also has some window motor
problem. Ray had them all rebuilt so it's probably the switches. The
door panels have to come off anyway to get to the rust.
I guess I'll work on the 62 next as it will be a
quick job. Well, as quick as any. On second thought, we'll see how
quick I guess........
Never traded two cars in one day
before.
